Surgeon Charged with Threats to Harm Hospital Staff While Performing Surgery

A surgeon based in Saginaw has been charged with false report or threat of terrorism after police say he made threats to medical staff at Ascension Saint Mary’s Hospital.

37-year-old Omar Marar with CMU Health is accused of threatening to kill staff and blow them up while he was performing surgery on a patient on January 8. Police say Marar became angry after a carbon dioxide tank malfunction. He is also accused of similar behavior during surgery in December 2022.

Marar was arrested leaving Covenant Hospital in Saginaw on Tuesday and was arraigned Wednesday. He has posted ten percent of a $100,000 bond. Ascension Saint Mary’s officials have not prevented him from continuing to perform his duties. His next court date is pending.
