Woman Picking Up Mail Dies After Being Hit by Van

An 81-year-old woman has died after being hit by a van as she was getting her mail. State Police at the Tri-City Post are investigating the crash that killed Betty Bamberg of Frankenmuth.

It happened just before 1:00 p.m. Sunday on M-46 near S. Reese Road, when the Ford Econoline van lost control and went off the icy road, striking Bamberg while she was at her mailbox.

Bamberg was taken to a local hospital with critical injuries, but later died. The Michigan State Police Reconstruction Unit, Frankenmuth Police, the Bloomfield Township Fire Department and MMR assisted at the scene.
