State Police are investigating a crash involving a trooper in Midland County. It happened just before 3:00 p.m. Wednesdsay, on M-18 just south of Shaffer Road. State Police at the Tri-City Post said the trooper was heading south on M-18 when another vehicle turned in front of him, and he was unable to avoid a collision.

The trooper’s patrol vehicle went off the road into a ditch, and he was taken to a local hospital with non life-threatening injuries. Two civilians he had in the car were also hospitalized with minor injuries, and were expected to be released Thursday. The other driver, a 76-year-old woman from Beaverton, was also taken to the hospital with minor injuries. She also was expected to be released Wednesday.

State Police said the investigation is being conducted by the MSP Sixth District Investigative Response Team. They said data from both vehicles will be reviewed as part of the investigation, in an attempt to make a determination of fault in the crash.

State Police were assisted on-scene by personnel from the Coleman Police Department, Coleman Fire Department, Midland County Sheriff’s Office, Midland County Road Commission and MidMichigan EMS.
