Overtaxed Bay City Storm System Causes Street Flooding
From the Bay City Department of Public Works October 31:
“Today’s weather forecast with peak wind speeds gusting up to 40 mph out of the Northeast has resulted in the City’s storm sewer system to be at full capacity. As a result, the storm water has no where to drain and results in temporary flooding throughout our street system.
Until the storm abates there are no activities that city staff can take to reduce the street flooding.
Current roadway closures OR know locations of water over the road are as follows:
John F. Kennedy Drive FULL ROAD CLOSURE between the Bay County Community Center to the Marina, including the west bound ramp from Veteran’s Bridge that leads into Veteran’s Park.
Evergreen Drive WATER OVER THE ROAD
Truman Parkway – SINGLE LANE CLOSURES from Marquette Avenue to Wilder Road
Later today, the wind is expected to die down for a very brief period and switch out of the Northwest. The second storm event, late Thursday through early Friday, will be a stronger wind event, but out of a more favorable direction.
Once the storm system passes and roadway water begins to drain, we are asking residents to inspect storm sewer drains near their homes and remove any clogs of leaves or other debris.
Thank you to our residents and visitors for using care and patience when traveling.”
