Kawkawlin Township Couple Killed in Fiery Crash Near South Haven

Police in South Haven are investigating a crash which killed two Kawkawlin Township residents.

The crash occurred Friday, March 26 sometime before 6:00 p.m. in the northbound lanes on I-196 in Covert Township when a passenger vehicle and a semi trailer hauling pickup trucks collided. The smaller vehicle became pinned beneath the front end of the semi and both vehicles caught fire. The occupants of the smaller vehicle, a 70-year-old woman and a 72-year-old man, were pronounced dead at the scene. There’s no word on the condition of the semi driver. The names of the victims have not been released.

The northbound lanes were closed for about 12 hours as police conducted their investigation.
