Frankenmuth Carriage Hit and Run Injures Driver, Horse Okay

A Frankenmuth carriage driver is recovering after the vehicle was totaled in a hit and crash on Sunday, December 27.

Police say a man driving a white Jeep Compass was heading north on Main Street around 12:45 p.m. when he rear ended the carriage in the 900 block, then fled the scene. The carriage driver was thrown from the vehicle and suffered intense pain but no broken bones. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The horse was unharmed and is in the care of a local veterinarian.

The Compass driver was located in Genesee County after calling a wrecker service, claiming he hit a deer. A state police trooper was sent along to assess the damage to the vehicle and realized it was the vehicle involved in the Frankenmuth crash. Frankenmuth police were dispatched and arrested the man, taking him back to Saginaw County.
