City of Saginaw Increases Enforcement of Illegal Dumping

The City of Saginaw Inspections Division has recently installed two additional surveillance cameras specifically targeted to capture illegal dumping. The cameras were installed as part of an initiative designed to step up enforcement of dumping violations within the city. Since September, city staff have installed cameras in remote areas prone to illegal dumping. Each camera is equipped with a high dynamic range to provide enhanced visibility for bright and dark areas.

Illegal dumping is a misdemeanor with fines up to $500 and/or 90 days in jail. Residents who want to dispose of large, bulky materials are encouraged to use the monthly Waste Convenience Station at 1435 S. Washington Ave., on the second Saturday of each month from 8:00 a.m.. to noon. Items that can be dropped off include recyclables, building materials, furniture, trash and other miscellaneous items. Residents must show a valid Michigan driver’s license or ID as proof of residency.

To report illegal dumping, call City Inspector Allen Rabideau at (989) 759-1420.
