A former Congressman from the Great Lakes Bay Region has died.

Jerome Robert or “Bob” Traxler was was born in Kawkawlin in 1931 and graduated from T.L. Handy High School in Bay City in 1949. He practiced law in Bay City in the early 1960s before becoming a State Representative in 1962. He served in the Michigan House as a Democrat until 1974.

Traxler became a Congressman in 1974 and served until his retirement in 1993, succeeded by now Bay County Executive Jim Barcia.

Traxler passed away Wednesday, October 30 at the age of 88. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 6, at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, 815 N. Grant St., Bay City, MI  48708.  The Reverend Sue Rich will officiate and Military Honors will take place. Cremation will follow with burial in the Mackinac Island Public Cemetery.

Memorials may be designated for Trinity Episcopal Church in Bay City or the Mackinac Island Community Foundation.

Visiting hours with the family will be Monday, November 4, 2019 and Tuesday, November 5, 2019 from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the W. A. Trahan Funeral Chapel; and in church on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.  www.trahanfc.com
