Presidential candidate, Senator Bernie Sanders, with the support of other progressives, is introducting legislation proposing to eliminate all $1.6 trillion of student debt owed by 45 million Americans in the United States. This is part of a package that would also make public universities, community colleges, and trade schools tuition-free.

Sanders says his plan will be paid for with a new taxes on financial transactions, including .5 percent tax on stock transactions and .1 percent tax on bonds.

Some early objections are being voice by moderate Democrats, who might be on board with the idea, but not for all debt for every American.
