Wake Up Song of the Day:     Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs “Stay“.   It’s a “One Hit Wonder Monday” song!   For our purposes, defined as a singer or group known for only one song to chart on the U.S. Billboard Top 40.   Or, even if a second song is on the chart, it is overwhelmed and generally forgotten because of the success of the “One Hit Wonder”.   The song was written by Williams in 1953 when he was 15 years old.   He had been trying to convince his date not to go home at 10 o’clock as she was supposed to.   It wasn’t until 1960 the song eventually was released and charted #1 on November 21.  The original recording of “Stay” remains the shortest single ever to reach the top of the American record charts, at 1 minute 36 seconds.   Its popularity revived when it was featured on the Dirty Dancing soundtrack.
