Wake Up Song of the Day: The Allman Brothers Band “Ramblin’ Man”. It’s a “Songs that Peaked at #2 Monday”! Every Monday, we play a song that you may think hit #1, but never did. Or, perhaps you thought this song never did as well to reach #2! This song serves a dual purpose as it’s also an Honor Song for Dickey Betts, a co-founder of The Allman Brothers Band who died last week at the age of 80. Dickey wrote this song and sang lead vocals. In 1973, “Ramblin’ Man” peaked at #2 for one week behind Cher’s “Half Breed. It was the Allman Brothers Band’s first and only top 10 single. It was inspired by a 1951 song of the same name by Hank Williams. Betts died from cancer and COPD at his home in Osprey, Florida, on April 18.
