Wake Up Song of the Day:    Eric Weissberg and Steve Mandell “Dueling Banjos”.   It’s a “Songs that Peaked at #2 Monday”!   Every Monday, we play a song that you may think hit #1, but never did.   Or, perhaps you thought this song never did as well to reach #2!   In 1973, thanks to “Dueling Banjos” featured in the movie “Deliverance”, the song peaked at #2 for three weeks, each week behind Roberta Flack’s “Killing Me Softly with His Song”.   It was composed by Arthur Smith in 1954 titled “Feudin’ Banjos”.   The first time it was featured on a screen was in a 1963 television episode of The Andy Griffith Show.   When the song was used in “Deliverance”, it was without permission from the composer, Arthur Smith.   He sued and won, receiving songwriting credit as well as royalties.
