The woman killed in a Gratiot County house fire on March 6 has been identified.

34-year-old Ali Smith was killed after an explosion in the home in the 700 block of East Chestnut Road around 3:30 A.M. Fire officials say a 35-year-old man was found outside the home with severe burns, while the woman and a seven-year-old girl were still inside. Firefighters were able to get them out and attempted resuscitation efforts. The woman died at the scene while the girl survived.

Both the girl and the man were transported to Hurley Medical Center in Flint. The man suffered critical injuries, though the girl has been upgraded to stable condition. The cause of the explosion and fire are under investigation.
