First Presbyterian Church and Dow Bay Area Family YMCA Partner to Bring Childcare to Bay City

For more than 20 years, the First Presbyterian Church in Bay City has operated a four room child care center for local community families.

After closing due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the church is reopening the center on December 26, thanks to a partnership with the Dow Bay Area YMCA.  The new child care location will employ 18 YMCA staff, including 3 full time positions. The Y currently has a full-time childcare center at their location at 225 Washington Avenue, licensed for 86 children. The new location will be the first off-site child care center for the Y. First Presbyterian Church is located at 805 Center Ave.

Steve Krankota, CEO of the Dow Bay Area Family YMCA, says, ““The idea of this collaboration started about 10 months ago, but the result shows that when you get the right people in the room, all with the same vision, remarkable things can happen. We understand the need in our community when it comes to childcare and we look forward to serving more families.”

The YMCA is accepting applications for childcare at the new site and will have space for infants through preschool age children. Those interested should email the Early Childhood Director at [email protected].
