59-Year-Old Brother of Congressman Dan Kildee Shot and Killed by Son

Authorities say the brother of Congressman Dan Kildee was shot and killed in Vienna Township early Tuesday morning.

According to Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson, police responded to a domestic violence call in Burton around 2:50, but the 27-year-old suspect had already left when they arrived. Swanson says around 5:00, the suspect’s mother asked his father, 59-year-old Timothy Kildee, for help after the suspect jumped out of her vehicle and fled.

According to a witness who was at Kildee’s home, the father and son returned to the house in the 9000 block of Neff Road alone and the witness heard an argument followed by a single gunshot. Swanson says the 27-year-old suspect then stole a vehicle from the driveway and, about 8 minutes later, crashed into another vehicle at the intersection of Dort Highway and Stanley Road, suffering serious injuries.

He was taken to a local hospital and is police custody. Investigators believe mental health or substance abuse may have been factors in the incident.
