Wake Up Song of the Day:     The Beatles “Yellow Submarine”.   In 1966, The Beatles “Yellow Submarine” peaked at #2 for 1 week, right behind the Supremes “You Can’t Hurry Love”.   The Beatles hit #1 in 9 other countries around the world.   Written as a children’s song, it featured Ring Starr on the lead vocals.   When “Yellow Submarine” was released in the United States, it coincided with the controversies surrounding Lennon’s “The Beatles more popular than Jesus” remarks – which led some radio stations to impose a ban on the Beatles’ music – and the band’s public opposition to the Vietnam War.   Also, some viewed the song as a code for drugs.   The song originally opened with a 15-second section containing narration by Starr and dialogue by Harrison, McCartney and Lennon.   The song inspired the 1968 United Artists animated film Yellow Submarine.
