LENA Start Coming to Saginaw Public Libraries
The Saginaw Public Library System is launching a new initiative to improve kindergarten readiness.
LENA Start is a program that teaches and encourages parents to talk to their children, even before they are able to speak. The program draws from research which shows back and forth conversations between a caregiver and a child to be an important part of early brain development. LENA integrates a “talk pedometer” to measure how much parents are talking with their children and how much the child responds.
Through a partnership with the Bay County Library System, Saginaw Libraries will offer the 10-week-long course beginning October 10th at Butman-Fish Library. Interested caregivers can call (989)799-9160 or visit the Public Libraries of Saginaw website.
