Prescott Man Arrested for Breaking Into Standish Prison

While news stories often mention someone trying to break out of prison, one man allegedly broke into a prison in Arenac County on Sunday.

Police responded to the Standish Prison, which has sat abandoned and empty for about 15 years, though it has been maintained by the Michigan Department of Corrections. Police say 42-year-old Cody Bellamy of Prescott entered the facility around 11:30 P.M. Sunday, which caused an alarm to go off. Police arrived and arrested the suspect as he exited the building.

Police say Bellamy claimed to just want to look around, though they found suspected stolen jewelry, cash and burglary tools in his vehicle. He is being held on a $100,000 bond in the Arenac County Jail.
