National Organization Wants Saginaw to Remove Apartment Building After Teen Shot and Killed

The family of a murdered Saginaw teen is calling on the city to take action on a building where they claim violence often occurs.

Last Thursday, 19-year-old Jason Porterfield, Jr. was shot at the Birch Park Apartments in the 3000 block of Birch Park Dr. Initial reports listed him in stable condition. However, according to a news release by the Next Generation Action Network, Porterfield died Saturday. Police have not provided any details about potential suspects.

Porterfield was the stepson of the NGAN President and CEO Minister Dominique Alexander. The NGAN says Birch Park Apartments has a “long history of violence and neglect” and are calling on Saginaw leaders to shut the building down.

Funeral arrangements have been made for Porterfield through the Paradise Funeral Chapel in Saginaw for April 1 and 2.
