Kildee Chief of Staff Not to Run for Congress

Congressman Dan Kildee’s chief of staff says he will not run to represent Michigan’s 8th Congressional District next year.

Mitchell Rivard announced in a statement on Tuesday that he will not look to fill the seat being vacated by his boss in the 2024 election. Rivard, a Bay City native, says he’s looking for opportunities outside of elected office to serve. So far, only state Board of Education President Pamela Pugh has announced candidacy for the Democrat nomination in 2024. Two Republicans, Dr. Martin Blank of Saginaw and Paul Junge, who lost to Kildee in 2022, have announced campaigns for the seat.
