Bay County Park, Boys and Girls Club May Get State Funding Boost

A Bay County park may see a funding boost if Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer approves a couple of bills passed by the state legislature.

The Herbert W. Steih Memorial Park along the Kawkawlin River in Monitor Township is slated to receive $269,400 to expand access to the river. The funds will help renovate the parking lot and a canoe-kayak launch at the park, while adding new features, including a second canoe-kayak launch, paths, a pavilion, park benches and informative signs by the river. The state funding will supplement existing resources.

The Boys and Girls Club Great Lakes Bay Region is also on the docket for some extra funding. The organization may receive $400,000 to help it maintain and improve its Bay City facilities with a variety of building and grounds projects, such as improvements to athletic facilities, technology and the kitchen.
