The Bay County Board of Commissioners marked a pair of special centennials Tuesday, June 11 with proclamations.

One involved the 100th anniversary of the Bay County Historical Society housed in the former National Guard Armory, which is next door to Bay City Hall on Washington Ave.

The other recognized the passage of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution granting women the right to vote. County Executive Jim Barcia says it’s hard to believe women were denied voting rights for 133 years before the Amendment passed. He called the anniversary of the amendment a time for women and men to celebrate.
