10-Year-Old Saginaw Boy Arrested for School Threat

Police in Saginaw arrested a 10-year-old boy Tuesday, April 12 after the child allegedly threatened to shoot up his school.

The fourth grader at Herig Elementary had a cell phone taken away by a staff member and was denied getting it back. The boy allegedly could be over heard threatening violence as he left the building. Police found him walking home. They spoke with the boy’s mother before taking him into custody.

The child is being held in the Saginaw County Juvenile Detention Center on charges of making a false threat of terrorism, evidence of the county prosecutor’s office’s zero tolerance stance on threats against schools. The boy is charged as a juvenile and will likely receive treatment instead of punishment due to his age.
