Kentucky Derby winner Medina Spirit has died after suffering a heart attack at a Southern California racetrack after a workout, an attorney for trainer Bob Baffert confirmed to CBS News on Monday. Attorney Craig Robertson said the incident happened at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California.

Robertson didn’t immediately provide additional details about the incident.

The 3-year-old thoroughbred won the Kentucky Derby in May, but the horse tested positive for the anti-inflammatory steroid betamethasone. Medina Spirit went on to a second-place finish in the Breeders’ Cup Classic and third in the Preakness Stakes, but was banned from participating in the Belmont Stakes.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
