Freeland Woman Arrested In Online Stolen Merchandise Scam
Police arrested a Freeland woman Wednesday for selling rental designer clothes.
42-year-old Brandalene Horn is accused of mail fraud, wire fraud and interstate transportation of stolen property. According to federal prosecutors in New York, Horn rented more than $800,000 worth of designer clothes and accessories, then sold them for a profit. Prosecutors allege Horn would rent the clothing, then dispute the charges with her credit union or canceled the credit and debit cards she had used and simply open new accounts with those companies once her accounts were flagged. Horn allegedly used the companies’ own photos and descriptions of the clothing to sell the items online. At least three subscription based companies were affected.
Prosecutors say the scam began in April 2022, and Horn was arrested after an investigator posed as a customer buying the clothes from Horn. She is currently being held in the Bay County Jail.
