Sex Offender Charged with Murder of Woman and Shooting a Child

The Saginaw man accused of murdering a woman and shooting her child on a reservation in Mount Pleasant has been indicted by a grand jury on multiple felony charges.

According to the Department of Justice, 37-year-old Johnathan Ashford, a convicted sex offender, is charged with the murder of Rosanna Romero as well as assault with intent to murder for allegedly shooting Romero’s child. Police initially arrested Ashford on unrelated charges, but they say he confessed to shooting Romero and her child. He’s also charged with failing to register as a sex offender, felon in possession of a firearm, first degree child abuse, and two counts of domestic assault by a habitual offender.

If convicted, Ashford could face life in prison.
