WSGW OnLine Poll: Funding Michigan Road Repairs

(September 25 – October 2, 2024)

A survey from earlier this year asking Michigan residents about funding road repairs was recently released.

Currently, the gas tax largely pays for road repairs. The survey asked if the gas tax should continue to be the main source, or should a “road usage charge” be considered, or perhaps using the state’s general fund.

Of the valid responses tallied, 31% said use the general fund, 25% said use a “road usage charge”, and 23% said keep the gas tax.

The “road usage charge” would be a type of pay-per-mile system.
