There is talk about future possibilities using “digital dollars” instead of “regular money”. Does that mean one day we will not have new coins to find?
EMBDEN, Maine (AP) – A North Carolina man with a metal detector has turned up some interesting finds, all on a single expedition to Maine.
Shane Houston of Charlotte went on a metal-hunting trip with a friend from New Hampshire when he found a 222-year-old coin. The long-hidden copper penny was dated 1798, making it a product of the first decade of American-minted money in North America. The Bangor Daily News reports Houston found the penny on the grounds of a church where he had permission to use his metal detector.
It wasn’t his only find. On the same trip, he unearthed an 1818 penny, a full wagon wheel, and a musket ball that was created in Britain.
