Wake Up Song of the Day:     Three Degrees “When Will I See You Again”. It’s a “Songs that Peaked at #2 Monday”!   Every Monday, we play a song that you may think hit #1, but never did.   Or, perhaps you thought this song never did as well to reach #2!

In 1974, this all-girl trio peaked at #2 with this song as their biggest hit.   Now, earlier in 1974, Three Degrees was featured on the #1 song “TSOP (The Sound of Philadelphia)” by MFSB.   But, on their own, “When Will I See You Again” was #2 for one week behind Carl Douglas and “Kung Fu Fighting”.   Three Degrees did top the Adult Contemporary Chart and was #1 in the U.K.

The lead vocalist, Sheila Ferguson, says when she was first introduced to the song by the co-writer and producer, Kenny Gamble, she threw a tantrum. She screamed and yelled and said she would never sing it.   She thought it was ridiculously insulting to be given such a simple song and that it took no talent to sing it.   After several million copies sold, Sheila said she realized Kenny knew more than me! She did sing a solo version in 1994 that charted #60.

The Three Degrees performed the song at Prince Charles’ 30th birthday party at Buckingham Palace in 1978.
