Wake Up Song of the Day:    Tina Turner “What’s Love Got To Do With It”.   It’s the Friday Flashback Song!   We “Flash Back” in 10-20-30-40-50-60-70 year increments to find Number One Songs at this time that are still remembered today, along with the artists and groups that perform.   Or, Number One Songs that are long forgotten, along with the artists and groups that perform.

Twenty years ago in 1984, Tina hit #1 for 3 weeks with her only Hot 100 chart-topping song, selling over two million copies worldwide.   At the time at age 44, Tina became the oldest solo female artist to have a #1 song.   “What’s Love Got To Do With It” won three Grammy Awards:  Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.   In 2012, “What’s Love Got to Do with It” was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.

In 1993, the song’s title was used as the title for the biographical film based on Tina’s life.

The song was originally offered to Cliff Richard, but it was rejected.   Some months before Turner recorded the song, the British pop group Bucks Fizz were offered it, and did record a version.   The Bucks Fizz version went unreleased when Tina released her recording first.
