Wake Up Song of the Day: Aretha Franklin “Chain of Fools”. It’s a “Songs that Peaked at #2 Monday”! Every Monday, we play a song that you may think hit #1, but never did. Or, perhaps you thought this song never did as well to reach #2! It was 1968 and Aretha Peaked at #2 for two weeks with “Chain of Fools”. For two weeks she was right behind John Fred & His Playboy Band with “Judy in Disguise (With Glasses)”. Aretha did top the R&B Chart for four weeks. “Chain of Fools” was a Grammy Winner for Best Female R&B Performance. And later, received a Grammy Hall of Fame Award. The song was actually created for Otis Redding, but after hearing a demo, producer Jerry Wexler chose to place the song with Aretha.
