Wake Up Song of the Day: Bachman-Turner Overdrive “You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet”. It’s the Friday Flashback Song! We “Flash Back” in 10-20-30-40-50-60-70 year increments to find Number One Songs at this time that are still remembered today, along with the artists and groups that perform. Or, Number One Songs that are long forgotten, along with the artists and groups that perform.
Fifty years ago in 1974, Bachman–Turner Overdrive, or BTO, hit #1 for one week. This was the only #1 song for the rockers from Canada. It was also hit #1 in their home country, plus three other countries.
“You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet” was written by Randy Bachman. According to Bachman, the song was performed as a joke for his brother, Gary, who had a stutter. They only intended to record it once with the stutter and send the only recording to Gary. BTO ended up using the song as a “work track” in the studio to get the amplifiers and microphones set properly. Then, when winding up production on the album “Not Fragile”, a Mercury Records producer thought the eight tracks for the album lacked magic. It was suggested the “work track” song “You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet” might work for the album. Randy Bachman agreed, but wanted to re-record it without the stutter. However, he said when he tried it, he sounded like Frank Sinatra. The stutter stayed.
