Wake Up Song of the Day:     The Supremes “Baby Love”.   It’s the Friday Flashback Song!   We “Flash Back” in 10-20-30-40-50-60-70 year increments to find Number One Songs at this time that are still remembered today, along with the artists and groups that perform.   Or, Number One Songs that are long forgotten, along with the artists and groups that perform.

It was 1964 and The Supremes followed up a first #1 song early in the year, “Where Did Our Love Go”, with this second straight #1 song for four weeks.   In fact, there would be three more #1’s to follow to make it five straight, “Come See About Me”, “Stop! In the Name of Love”, “Back in My Arms Again”.

“Baby Love” allowed the Supremes to be the first Motown act to have more than one American #1 song.

It was nominated for a Grammy, but lost.

“Baby Love” was written and produced by the famous Holland–Dozier–Holland team. At the insistence of Motown’s Berry Gordy, the song was to incorporate sounds from the song “Where Did Our Love Go” in hopes “Baby Love” would be a big follow-up hit.
