Woman Sues St. Charles In Second Lawsuit Over Political Sign Removal

The village of Saint Charles is facing another lawsuit pertaining to removed political signs from resident’s property.

In August, village Board trustee Troy Freed sued the community, its president, manager, and the police chief for removing political signs from personal property, claiming the removals violated the First and Fourth Amendments. The village has an ordinance which state political signs cannot be placed until 30 days before an election and removed four days after. Chief Jason Oliver even posted to social media he would be removing the signs and any residents who found them missing could reclaim them at the police department.

Now, another Saint Charles resident, Amy Paul, is suing after her signs supporting Freed for village council was removed. Video footage from a camera on her porch shows village president Edgar Tithof approach her home on a bicycle on August 22 and remove the sign. Her lawsuit also alleges violations of the First and Fourth Amendments.
