Woman Rescued From Car In River

Just before 5:00pm on Saturday, September 11th a car was reported overturned in water. Firefighters from Frankenmuth, Bridgeport and Millington responded to the report of a vehicle upside down in the Cass River in the area of Ormes and Lewis Rd.

Frankenmuth Fire officials said if it were not for the heroic actions of two Frankenmuth area men, the 20 year old woman from the Fairgrove area may not have survived. These two men entered the river, cut the lone occupant’s seat belt and moved her to the shore where they continued to take care of the victim until responders from Frankenmuth, Michigan State Police, Tuscola County Sheriff’s Office, Mobile Medical Response, Bridgeport Fire Department, Millington-Arbela Fire Department, and FlightCare could arrive. Crews were able to bring the patient up the steep river bank. MMR transported the woman to a local hospital for treatment of her injuries.
The status of the patient is unknown as of this time.
Crews from Reinert & Bender Auto Repair removed the vehicle from the river.
If you know or are one of the two men who entered the water please contact the Frankenmuth Fire Dept.
