Woman Arraigned For Child Abuse in Death of Baby

A Carrollton Township woman was arraigned on first-degree child abuse Wednesday, September 25.

28-year-old Megan Schweinsberg is accused of abusing her one-year-old son Darryn Mann. Police say Schweinsberg’s boyfriend, 25-year-old Brandon Mannie, is responsible for the boy’s death. He’s being held in the Saginaw County Jail on open murder charges.

The baby was killed July 10 at a residence in the 2800 block of N. Michigan Ave. Schweinsberg fled to a neighbor’s house to call police after Mannie allegedly assaulted her when she tried to intervene in an assault on the boy, according to police. Police say the boy suffered blunt force trauma and third-degree burns which led to his death.

Schweinsberg is being held on a $200,000 bond and has a preliminary hearing October 16. The maximum penalty is life in prison with a possibility of parole.
