Wear Red Day Raises Women’s Heart Health Awareness

Friday is National Wear Red Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness of heart disease as the leading cause of death in women.

According to the American Heart Association, cardiovascular diseases claim the life of a woman about every 80 seconds, but about 80 percent of heart diseases may be prevented.

Dr. Nishtha Sareen, medical director of the Women Heart Health Program for Ascension Michigan, says studies on heart health involve mostly men, making it difficult to know what symptoms women experience with heart related issues.

To speak with an expert at Ascension Saint Mary’s Hospital in Saginaw about steps women can take to reduce their risk of heart disease, please call(989) 754-3000 or visit ascension.org/MichiganHeart.
