UAW Members Split on Potential Contract with GM
As ratification votes on an agreement between the UAW and General Motors continue to roll in , workers in the Great Lakes Bay Region appear split.
53 percent of the 183 production workers with UAW Local 668 at Saginaw Metal Casting Operations voted against the ratification. Skilled trades workers from the same branch voted in favor of the agreement, pushing the total to 54 percent “yes.”
At GM’s Bay City plant, a combined 65 percent of UAW Local 362’s production and trades workers approved ratification. As of Tuesday afternoon, the UAW website showed production workers across the nation were split, with 51 percent voting against, while nearly two-thirds of skilled trades workers were in favor of the agreement.
