Two Men Rescued from Saginaw Bay

Two men returning from a Saginaw Bay ice fishing trip consider themselves lucky to be alive after falling into the water on Saturday, February 14.

The incident occurred around 8:00 p.m. near the Saganing sandbar, about five or six miles from shore when 30-year-old Ryan Kleinhans and his father, 60-year-old Kurt Kleinhans, were returning from ice fishing on their snowmobiles. Ryan Kleinhans managed to pull himself onto the ice and then pulled his father out of the water. Nearby fishermen helped get the men to shore.

The Kleinhans were taken to a local hospital for hypothermia but are doing well, according to officials.
