Toddler Dies After Being Struck By Pickup in Gratiot County

A Gratiot County child has died after being struck by a pickup truck.

Police say the incident occurred Saturday, November 7 around 11:00 a.m. in the 3000 block of N. Lumberjack Rd. in Summer Township. The 16-month-old child wandered into the road from a yard and was struck by the truck, driven by a 24-year-old man. The child was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say no alcohol or drugs were involved in the incident and the man was traveling at or below the speed limit. Police say he attempted to avoid the child but was unable to do so. The accident remains under investigation.
