Thursday Music Minute–Gillian Welch

Gillian WelchGillian Welch has been making records since 1996, yet I only discovered her music last winter. If there’s one aspect that I really enjoy about hosting WSGW’s First Day, it’s that I’ve become acquainted with music that I may never had encountered.

I stumbled across this Gillian Welch tune while searching for songs about winter, and I’ve been a huge fan ever since. I’m not a big fan of country music, really, but I do enjoy Americana. Gillian is Americana through-and-through, which includes, naturally, a country music feel.

Here’s “Acony Bell” from Gillian’s debut album in 1993, and it sings Spring through-and-through.

Enjoy!
