Thanks to everyone who took part in the 2018 Burger Blast on opening day of the Saginaw County Fair! We had a great time and would also like to thank our co-sponsors: Michigan Sugar, Star of the West Milling Company and ACH Seeds.
There were burgers of all kinds and the scores were very close, but the winners were:
1st Place, Kamryn Chasnis of Saginaw, “Spicy Smooth Burger”
2nd Place, Cheryl Williams of Bay City, “Triple S Burger-Sweet Spicy Sliders”
3rd Place, Linda Schmidt, Kawkawlin, “Bacon Wrapped Hawaiian Teriyaki Burger”
Several of our contestants dedicated their efforts in the Burger Blast to the memory of Dolly Votruba, who passed away recently. Dolly was a frequent contestant in our cookoffs, and a member of the “Love to Cook Club,” which began as another way for many of our contestants to get together and celebrate their love of cooking and food.
This contest was Kamryn’s first time entering one of our cookoffs, but she’s a very experienced cook and baker, and has co-hosted with us on Listen to the Mrs. several times! She was a contestant on Master Chef Jr. a couple of years ago and owns Kamryn’s Creations, where she does baking and cooking. She sells her creations and is saving up to attend culinary school. She also donates a portion of her earnings to different charities. Kamryn said she planned to do some school shopping with her Burger Blast winnings.
