Tanker Truck Rolls, Spills Hazardous Material in Gratiot County
Hazmat crews and the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy were on the scene of a hazardous material spill for much of the day Thursday in Gratiot County following a crash on M-46.
Police say the crash occurred around 9:30 A.M. when a pickup truck and a semi tanker carrying an unnamed hazardous material crash at Warner Road. The force of the crash caused the tanker to overturn and leak the material onto the roadway. Police say the pickup driver was trapped in their vehicle and was unresponsive. Emergency responders were able to extract the driver. However, their condition is unknown at this time. Officials closed the road from Osborne to Bliss roads during the containment and cleanup.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
