Tall Ship Docked in Bay City Through Sunday

Tall ship enthusiasts can get a special treat this weekend as the Nao Trinidad has docked in Bay City, along the Saginaw River. The ship arrived Thursday. It’s a replica of one of only two ships to completely sail around the world as part of the Ferdinand Magellan expedition.

The Nao Trinidad was built by the Nao Victoria Foundation, a non-profit organization specializing in building ship replicas. The Trinidad is 93 feet long, has a 26 foot beam, three traditional masts and a bowsprit. The mainmast is more than 82 feet high. The ship has five sails and five different decks, each built with a tropical hardwood called Iroko and pinewood.

The ship will be in port in Bay City until Sunday. Visitors will be able to tour the ship’s decks from 10:00 to 1:00 and from 3:00 to 9:00 each day. Tickets are $15 for adults, $5 for children and $35 for families. Visit www.naotrinidad.org for tickets.
