SVSU Reports Increase in New Student Enrollment

Saginaw Valley State University (SVSU) has seen an increase in new student enrollment this fall compared to recent years.

School leaders say the number of incoming freshmen rose by 5.6% , from 1,292 last year to 1,365 this year. SVSU also experienced a 9% rise in transfer students, with 347 this fall, up from 319 last year. Ken Fettig, SVSU’s vice president for Enrollment Management, credited the increase to the university’s efforts to support new students and families despite recent challenges with the federal FAFSA system. SVSU’s overall enrollment for fall 2024 stands at 6,822 students, slightly down from last year’s 6,889. Retention rates for the 2023 freshman class improved to 77.2%, matching pre-pandemic levels. Fall classes began on August 26.
