SVSU Campus Closed As Police Respond to ‘Person in Distress’

Saginaw Valley State University is closed Friday, November 13 for an ongoing situation involving a person in distress.

The campus reports police are on the scene at the Science West building, where they’ve set up a perimeter. Initial reports suggest a person is locked inside an office of the building threatening to harm themselves. Police are attempting to deescalate the situation and a medical unit is on standby.

The school issued an alert last night around 9:00, warning students, faculty and staff away from the building, plus Science East, Ryder Center, Pioneer Hall and Zahnow Library. There have been no reports of any injuries.

Remote work and classes may continue. Students are asked to check with their supervisor or instructor. Marketplace at Doan and the C-Store will be open for campus dining.
