State Troopers Extradite Suspects in Crimes Against Children from Florida
Four State Troopers from the West Branch Post flew to Florida earlier this week to extradite three suspects back to Michigan. Three of the troopers are assigned to the Trooper Investigator Unit, which investigates complex crimes against children, including Criminal Sexual Conduct, Child Sexually Abusive Material and child abuse. State Police say all three suspects had numerous active felony warrants resulting from Trooper Investigator Unit investigations.
The suspects are:
• Austin Wade Smith, 21-year-old male from Middleburg, Florida: 5 counts of CSC 3rd Degree, 1 count of CSC 4th Degree (force or coercion),
3 counts of CSC 4th Degree
• James Boyd Riley, 37-year-old male from Whittemore, Michigan: 9 counts of CSC 1st Degree,
• Robert Leroy Ogle, 66-year-old male from Beverly Hills, Florida: 5 counts of CSC 2nd (relationship), 2 counts of Accosting a Child for Immoral Purposes, 3 counts of Indecent Exposure
All three suspects were taken to the Iosco County Jail. Extradition costs were covered by the Iosco County Prosecutor’s Office. Since its inception in 2018, the Trooper Investigator Unit has investigated nearly 600 complaints in Arenac, Gladwin, Iosco and Ogemaw Counties.
