State Police Release Report of Trooper Involved Shooting In Flint

New details have emerged in an officer involved shooting in Flint.

The Michigan State Police Second District Special Investigation Unit is leading the investigation into the November 2 shooting death of 17-year-old Rayvon Shahid. Investigators say two state police troopers were patrolling the area of Essex Street and Pasadena Avenue on around 6:35 P.M. when they encountered Shahid, who they say immediately ran from them. Police say the boy was armed with a gun. The troopers gave pursuit and ordered the boy to drop the weapon, according to investigators.

When the boy continued to run, the troopers deployed a taser, which they say was ineffective. Police say the troopers ordered Shahid seven times to drop the weapon before shooting him with their service pistols. The troopers then provided first aid until the boy could be taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. A loaded Glock pistol with an extended magazine was recovered at the scene, according to police.

According to WJRT TV, friends of Shahid’s say the trooper’s claims Shahid was armed is false. The investigation will be forwarded to the Michigan Attorney General’s Office. The troopers involved have been placed on administrative leave during the invesitgation.
