Man Who Escaped Police Custody in Midland County Re-Captured

UPDATE: Michigan State Police say Brandon Gear was re-arrested around 10:35pm last night at a cabin he broke into near 11 Mile and M-20 in Lee township.

Gear escaped in handcuffs from the back of a patrol car around 11:35am Thursday morning at a home on 11 Mile between Short and Olson roads.

State Police have not confirmed how Gear escaped. He remains in the Midland county Jail.

 

Police in Midland County continue the search for a Midland man who escaped custody yesterday afternoon.

34-year-old Brandon Gear was arrested on possession of meth charges while police were investigating a suspicious situation at a home on 11 Mile Rd. between Olson and Short roads in Lee Township. Around 12:15 p.m., Gear managed to escape the patrol vehicle where he was held and fled the scene on foot. Police were unable to locate him even using a canine unit and a helicopter.

Gear was wearing an orange and black sweatshirt and blue jeans at the time of his escape. Police say he is not considered armed. Please call the state police Tri City post or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-422-JAIL if you have any information on his whereabouts.
