STARS Unveiles New Buses with Help from Federal Funding

The Saginaw Transit Authority Regional Services (STARS) has received new buses in its fleet thanks to some help from the federal government.

U.S. Congressman Dan Kildee helped secure funding for the 10 buses STARS unveiled Wednesday through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bus and Bus Facilities Program. This is in addition to recently announced $4 million grant, through his office’s community project funding initiative, to help STARS purchase 10 new buses.

Kildee says the plan is to upgrade STARS aging fleet.

The new transit buses include high-definition security systems, automatic wheelchair restraints and air cleaning systems to improve transportation safety and efficiency for mid-Michigan residents. These new buses, 18 in total, are badly needed, and will help meet STARS’ goal of replacing up to 33 buses by 2026.
